BRANDYWINE, Md. — An officer who was killed while intervening in a domestic dispute has been posthumously promoted.
WTOP reports that 51-year-old Prince George’s County Officer Mujahid Ramzziddin was posthumously promoted from corporal to sergeant on Wednesday. The PD also released more details about the fatal shooting.
On Feb. 21, Ramzziddin, who was off-duty, was intervening in a domestic dispute between Glenn Tyndell and his wife when Tyndell shot the officer five times with a shotgun. Police said they found the shotgun the next day at a nearby creek.
Tyndell took the officer’s service pistol, which Ramzziddin never fired during the confrontation, and led police on a pursuit.
Police said Tyndell was holding Ramzziddin’s gun and fired two shots at two other officers before police fatally shot the suspect.
A vigil was held to pay tribute to Ramzziddin on Wednesday, according to WIJA. Chief Hank Stawinski spoke about the officer’s sacrifice and the strength his family showed the days after his death.
“That sacrifice, you have my word, that sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Stawinski said.
