WARREN COUNTY, Miss. — A deputy died Tuesday of injuries sustained in a crash last month.
According to the Vicksburg Post, 58-year-old sheriff’s deputy Johnny Gatson fell ill at his home and became unresponsive. An autopsy determined he died of a blood clot related to a crash that occurred on-duty the previous month.
Gatson was in his cruiser February 23 when he hit a patch of black ice and crashed into a tree. The officer broke his leg below the kneecap and was taken to a hospital, where he underwent treatment and was released.
The Marine Corps veteran is survived by his wife, ODMP reported.
