Cops to be fired over miscarriage

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An attorney whose firm represents two Kansas City, Mo., police officers says the pair will be fired after they failed to get medical treatment for a pregnant suspect.

Luke Harkins says the Board of Police Commissioners decided to fire Officers Melody Spencer and Kevin Schnell.

The officers stopped Sofia Salva in February 2006 for having a fake temporary car tag. Salva repeatedly asked for medical help, but the officers ignored her pleas. They arrested her and she later miscarried.

Harkins says it’s unclear if the officers will appeal. Alva is suing the police department and the officers.
