No kneeling in felony arrests

KneelingTipX.jpg

When making a felony arrest, never place the suspect into a kneeling position, whether you have a cover officer or not. The problem occurs right when you holster your weapon and are about to go hands on or draw your handcuffs. If the subject is alert, he can quickly bring down his hands, pull a gun (from almost anywhere on his front side), drop his shoulder, turn and roll and suddenly be facing you from the ground squeezing off shots. The solution is obvious, for high-risk arrests prone them out every time! Whether you think you’re “Quick-Draw McGraw” or not, this is one close-quarters gun fight that never needs to happen.
