Confronted by a group of armed robbers in a desolate warehouse district near Doral, police officers fatally shot two and wounded two others, authorities said this morning.
The shooting happened on Northwest 68th Street just east of 84th Avenue.
The robbers refused to put down their weapons, said Miami-Dade Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a spokesman.
Two died on the scene. Two others were taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Zabaleta said. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The circumstances around the armed robbery were unknown but the shooting happened inside a horseshoe-shaped warehouse parking lot.
Homicide detectives were on scene investigating. Names of those involved were not released.
It was the second officer-involved shooting in Miami-Dade this year. On Feb. 11, a rookie Miami-Dade officer shot and killed Jose Gabriel Ventura, 19, after authorities said he tried running him over after a routine traffic stop.
