MALVERN, Ark. — A Malvern police officer was shot and injured early today when he became involved in foot chase with a suspect, officials said. The suspect got away and is still being sought.
Malvern police say an officer approached a suspicious person at about 1 a.m. and gave chase on foot when the suspect fled in the River Park area.
Officials say that in an altercation that followed, the suspect shot the officer, and the officer stabbed the suspect. The officer was shot in the upper body and was released after hospital treatment. The officer reported the suspect still had part of the knife in him when he got away.
Police say it appears the suspect was illegally hunting when the police officer approached him.
The suspect was described as a bearded white male, about 6-3 to 6-4 and about 240 pounds and wearing camouflage.
Officials say the suspect is wanted for attempted murder and first-degree battery.
