HOUSTON — An attorney for the family of an unarmed black man fatally shot by Houston police in 2014 says video from the incident does not show the actual shooting.
Houston police released the video to the family of 26-year-old Jordan Baker on Wednesday, the same day his family filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
David Owens, the family’s attorney, said at a news conference that the video shows the moments leading up to the shooting. He says those moments are important in understanding why the confrontation happened in the first place.
Houston police officials said they planned to release the video to the media later Wednesday.
Baker was killed by off-duty officer Juventino Castro, who is Hispanic. A grand jury declined to indict Castro last year.
