LAS VEGAS — Police released body camera footage Tuesday of an Aug. 5 shooting of a naked suicidal man.
Jason David Funke, 25, was outside a church with a semiautomatic handgun making threats against himself, Las Vegas Now reported. Police said children were inside the church.
Officers can be heard on the video telling Funke to drop his weapon. Initially, he complies and begins to walk away from the gun, but then turns around and runs toward it.
A K-9 was deployed, but the dog turned toward a pursuing officer and bit him on the belt. Officer Mark Hatten fired one shot at Funke as he was running toward the gun and struck him in the shoulder area, the news station reported.
The K-9 was redeployed as Funke fell and he was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital for treatment where he is currently in stable condition. Funke is held on suspicion of negligent use of a firearm and indecent exposure, KSNV reported. Per department policy, Hatten is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
