NEW YORK — Newly released body camera footage shows a suspect charge an officer with scissors before an officer involved shooting occurred, according to NYPD Public Information Commissioner Carlos Nieves.
The incident occurred April 21 in the Bronx, according to the video released on Dec. 14. Officer Eliezel Penadiaz and other officers approached a man, identified as Lorne Gordon, 38, after receiving calls that he was holding a pair of metal scissors in a “concerning” way.
Officers ordered Gordon to drop the weapon. Body camera video shows Gordon throwing a backpack and a kitchen knife toward the officers, then charging at them with the scissors.
Penadiaz fired three shots in response, hitting Gordon, the NYPD said. Gordon was treated at a hospital for his injuries.
