Chicago Tribune staff report

CHICAGO, Ill. — Five people, including two Chicago police officers, were hurt Wednesday morning when a vehicle hit a squad car in the South Loop, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4:30 at Roosevelt Road and State Street, Officer John Mirabelli said. The squad car was traveling east on Roosevelt and was hit on the driver’s side by a vehicle traveling south on State.

After the collision, the squad car crashed into a building at 1201 S. State.

Witnesses said the vehicle ran a red light before striking the squad car, Mirabelli said.

The officers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and three other people were taken to Stroger Hospital, Fire Department Chief Joe Roccasalva said. The officers were treated and released, he said.

Charges have not been filed, and the crash is under investigation, Mirabelli said.
