Video: Local twins become San Francisco cops

The brothers became cops to serve the community they grew up in

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Police Department has added a set of twins to its 244th recruit class, KTVU reported.

Two native San Franciscan twin brothers, Rodney and Ronney Freeman, decided to become cops because they wanted to serve the community they were raised in.

“Growing up, we didn’t like the cops. We were told cops are bad people,” Ronney said to KTVU.

After losing several childhood friends to the violent Bay View streets they grew up on, they’re determined to help the children and young people in the community.

“My heart, man, something’s got to change,” Rodney told KTVU. “I’m deeply rooted in my community, so I know I can get it back. I need to be that disciplinarian.”

The twins want to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement.

“As officers, we should not listen to respond; [we should] listen to understand. Communication is very key, very vital in this profession,” Ronney said to the publication.

They start field training next week.
