DETROIT — Detroit Mayor Dave Bing has appointed interim police Chief Ralph Godbee as the city’s permanent chief.

Bing announced the decision Tuesday following a 60-day search. The mayor says Godbee “has demonstrated that he can deliver the results this administration expects and our residents deserve.”

The permanent replacement for fired chief Warren Evans is the city’s fourth in the past two years.

Bing asked Evans to resign in July after learning that he took part in a promotional video for a cable police reality show and was romantically involved with a subordinate, Lt. Monique Patterson.

Godbee was previously romantically linked to Patterson when she was his subordinate. Her lawyer says she ended that relationship when she started dating Evans last year.
