LAPEER, Mich. — A Michigan State Police trooper is being recognized for his act of kindness.
It started when Trooper Jacob Genslau received a call for a car fire on an interstate, CBS Detroit reports.
As Genslau was speaking with the driver, identified as Alan Miller, he learned Miller was trying to get to a job interview. Miller told Genslau he was trying to support his family and the interview was a good opportunity to do so.
Miller had called the business he had a scheduled interview with to let them know he was running late. As he was waiting for his wife to pick him up, Genslau offered to drive him to the interview.
“He knew the place when I told him. Then he said, ‘Go sit tight, your fiancé is on the way.’ Then a few minutes passed and he was like … ‘Do you need a ride to your interview? Hop in, I’ll give you a ride,’” Miller told CBS Detroit.
Genslau said he was just trying to help someone in need.
“Just a short 20-minute car ride to potentially change his life makes it all worth it,” Genslau told CBS Detroit. “I don’t do this for the pats on the back or the shout-outs, but to help somebody when we can, when it’s appropriate, it’s fitting for our job. We signed up to protect and serve, and in most opinions, that’s serving and protecting someone.”
Miller ended up getting the job.
