COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Facebook post by the Columbus Police Department lead Christopher Jones, 24, to an officer who saved his life when he was 5 years old.

The Facebook post showed Officer James Poole at a community event in the park last month. Jones commented that he believed it was the same officer who saved his life back in 1997.

Jones got in touch with the department and surprised Officer Poole, who thought he was being filmed about being a community liaison officer. Poole shook Jones’ hand during the reunion on Friday without immediately realizing who he was.

Jones asked Poole if he remembered him.
“In about 1997, you pulled a 5-year-old boy from a swimming pool, saved his life?” Jones asked.

It was then that the connection dawned on the officer, and the two embraced.
