A Medium Range System has an Omni directional antenna on the aircraft and a high gain directional antenna on the receive end (ground). The aircraft can transmit to both short range receivers and medium range receive sites simultaneously. High gain antennas have narrow beam widths, and have to be pointed at the transmit site (aircraft). The pointing can be done manually, or automatically with GPS steering. GPS steered receive systems are typically located in a fixed place like a dispatch center. The Medium Range system gives coverage up to 50 miles radium from the receive antenna.
Omni Helicopter System - View PDF
The TAA-101 Omni Helicopter System is a dependable, low-cost news and information gathering system designed for live television broadcast and/or surveillance applications. The skid-mounted system employs a 6dB omni directional antenna providing 360° azimuth coverage and a greater the 40 mile range. When equipped with the BMT 75 Series transmitter, the system provides the user with a reliable, lightweight helicopter news and surveillance system.
The Omni Helicopter System is the transmit side of the short and medium range microwave systems. The basic airborne package includes a microwave transmitter, Omidirectional Antenna, control panel, and interconnect cables. Optional equipment includes, TAA-101 skid mounted Omni Actuator mechanism, GPS telemetry formatter, and video encryption.
GCA-11 Antenna - View PDF
The GCA-11 Airborne Directional Antenna is a smaller lighter airborne microwave pod incorporating a switchable array antenna selected by solid state switching. The pod is self-contained with integral electronics employing a high performance embedded processor which handles all control, supervision, and high speed streaming communication protocols, together with a solid state compass and modular I/O system. The BMS GCA-11 can be used in both aircraft and ground applications for ENG, military, and law enforcement.
Silhouette™ Central Receive System - View PDF
The Silhouette™ Central Receive System is the receive system for the Medium or Long Range Microwave Systems. It is designed for permanent installation on a tower or top of a building. The high gain antenna is GPS Steered and has a controller and microwave receiver that are typically located in the equipment building under the tower. Optional PC based MC5™ Master Controllers can access the local controller via phone line, fiber optics or fixed microwave paths. The system operator does not have to be co-located with the Silhouette™ antenna systems.
