Since 1981, the National Institute of Justice, through the NLECTC system and in partnership with the Michigan State Police, has sponsored evaluations of each model year’'s police vehicles. This report presents the full results of the 2004 model year police vehicle evaluation conducted in September 2003. Manufacturers submitted four police-package vehicles and four special-service vehicles for evaluation. Vehicles were evaluated in the areas of vehicle dynamics, acceleration and top-speed, braking, ergonomics and communications, and fuel economy.
