Another way to help avoid the blind spot is to attatch a small convex mirror to the lower corners of the mirrors. I have them on both mirrors and have been doing this for years. For only cost a couple of bucks, I can see the blind spots on both sides of the patrol car. It aids in seeing hazards along side of the car when backing, lane changes, merging into traffic, etc.
