LOS ANGELES — A man suspected of making threats against the White House is in a standoff with authorities outside the Federal Building in West Los Angeles.
Police Sgt. Kevin Lowe says officers on Thursday pursued the suspect’s red Volkswagen through the city’s west side the surrounded the car at the building’s entrance.
Several patrol cars are at the scene and officers have their guns drawn. A police bomb squad has also arrived, including a four-wheeled robot.
U.S. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan says the suspect made a threat but would not give details. He called the situation a “protective intelligence matter.”
Lowe says two misdemeanors warrants are out for the man’s arrest. He would not elaborate.
Police say a nearby apartment house has been evacuated.
