KIMBALL, S.D. — A highway patrol trooper was shot during a two-day standoff in South Dakota.
According to the Argus Leader, Sergeant John Koenig is in stable condition after being shot as police attempted to make contact with two suspects barricaded inside a home Wednesday.
The suspects, 42-year-old Donald London and 66-year-old Michael London, made a phone call to police while inside the home “threatening law enforcement,” the Associated Press reported.
As officers responded, a round was fired, striking the trooper.
The trooper is expected to survive.
Michael London surrendered late Wednesday and was taken into custody. The second suspect surrendered Thursday afternoon. There were no further injuries.
“This has been a long stressful 24 hours for everyone involved with this standoff situation,” South Dakota Highway Patrol superintendent Col. Craig Price told the Argus Leader. “Our goal was to make sure that we executed our plan as safely as possible for the officers, the public, as well as the individual involved.”
