GREENSBORO, NC — The driver of a car that chased another vehicle and led to a crash Wednesday was charged with impersonating a police officer.

Jerry Wayne Bostic, 35, also faces charges of careless and reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

At 3:06 p.m., Greensboro police officers saw a car with police-style lights chasing a vehicle in the area of West Meadowview Road.

Police pulled in behind the vehicles, notifying other officers of a possible car chase.

The car that was being pursued struck a third vehicle occupied by a mother and two small children.

The family was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The driver of the car that started the chase tried to elude police, but was caught.

Police quickly determined that the driver - Bostic - was not an officer.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle that was pursued by Bostic were arrested on drug- related charges.

Police did not say how or why the chase began.
