CHICAGO — City Hall has fired Marvin Ditkowsky, an 87-year-old Department of Aviation police officer at O’Hare Airport, for violating the city’s residency ordinance — for the past 15 years.
In August, a Chicago Sun-Times reporter found Ditkowsky living in Norridge, just across the street from Chicago’s city limits.
City officials told Ditkowsky he had to move to Chicago if he wanted to keep his job. He didn’t. So he was fired Dec. 14.
Ditkowsky spent 26 years with the Chicago Police Department before retiring in 1983.
He and his wife bought their Norridge home in 1991, and he landed a new job with the city in 1996, as a police officer in the city’s aviation department.
That allowed Ditkowsky to collect a city paycheck and a city pension at the same time.
Last year, his pay and pension from the city totaled $89,327.
