MILWAUKEE — A former Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy caught on video punching a handcuffed suspect in the back of a squad car has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Scott Krause was sentenced Friday in Milwaukee after prosecutors played a video that shows the 38-year-old former sergeant hitting 34-year-old Ray Calderon in the face several times.
Calderon is shown tapping and kicking the car’s back window with his foot, cursing and asking to use the bathroom after his Oct. 16 arrest.
Krause’s defense attorney says Krause was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after two Army combat tours and doesn’t remember punching Calderon.
Krause tearfully apologized Friday. He earlier pleaded no contest to felony misconduct in public office and misdemeanor battery.
