MERRIMACK, N.H. (AP) -- Police soon will have a new fitness center -- and it will be paid for by drug dealers, not taxpayers.
Town officials have agreed to spend more than $27,000 on the fitness center. The money had accumulated from drug-related seizures and will be used to renovate an existing gym at the police station.
Deputy Chief Paul Stavenger said it is a good idea that will help officers stay in shape. The bulk of the money stems from a federal drug bust that followed a two-year investigation in 1993.
