LOS ANGELES -- A police officer was shot Friday while responding to a domestic violence call, authorities said.
The unidentified officer was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The shooting occurred about 1 p.m. as two officers escorted a man from a home in South Los Angeles near 48th Street and Western Avenue.
The man pulled a gun and fired several shots, Los Angeles police Lt. Art Miller said. Police returned fire but it was unclear if the suspect was wounded.
Hundreds of officers were in the neighborhood investigating the attack and searching for the man.
According to NBC4, a 15-square-block area in the Crenshaw District in south Los Angeles was shut down as officers searched for the alleged shooter.
Police said he was armed and dangerous and had a tiger tattoo on his arm.
No other details were immediately available.
