BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore police are searching for a veteran correctional officer who is believed to have killed his wife and shot and seriously injured his 13-year-old stepson.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Donald Webb Jr., 48, in the murder of his wife Cynthia Webb, 42. Her killing brings the number of unjustified homicides in Baltimore this year to 181.

Webb, a 17-year veteran with the Baltimore City Correctional Center, was a shift supervisor who oversees three levels of correctional officers, said Maj. Priscilla Doggett, a Maryland Division of Corrections spokeswoman. She said he has a good work record.

“Lieutenant Webb’s co-workers and administrators were devastated to hear that he could be involved in such a tragic situation,” Doggett said. “We have ordered grief counselors to help his colleagues through this. The people who worked with him said there was no sign of any trouble.”

The shooting took place about 11:20 last night after a heated argument at the couple’s home in the 900 block of West Lombard St., Officer Troy Harris, a Baltimore police spokesman said.

Harris said that after the shooting Webb rushed downstairs, shot his stepson several times and fled in his blue 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck.

His stepson was rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was in stable condition this morning.

Police said Webb was driving a truck with Maryland license plate 24R856.
