CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A jail inmate had an unintended 30 minutes of freedom yesterday after Ross County sheriff’s officials released him by mistake.
They quickly realized their error and found 19-year-old Dustin Deardurff of Wellston a couple of blocks from the jail in Chillicothe (chil-ih-KAH'-thee).
Sheriff Ron Nichols says Deardurff was told he was free to go with other inmates who were being released and didn’t do anything wrong.
Nichols says Deardurff was supposed to be released to waiting Hardin County deputies. He’s blaming the inmate’s release from the jail on a miscommunication.
Deardurff was arrested Friday on a warrant from Hardin County charging him with tampering with evidence.
