MANITOWOC, Wis. — A former Manitowoc County highway worker will stand trial on charges of using a jail inmate to do yard work at his home.
James Schultz is charged with obstruction, misconduct and falsely exercising a function of public office.
The jail inmate testified yesterday that he was taken to private property where he moved furniture and cut and stacked wood. The inmate says he was paid $20, provided lunch and given cigarettes and drinks for the work.
A conviction on the charges against Schultz carries eight years in prison. Schultz was fired by the county after the criminal investigation was complete.
