CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — A routine traffic stop in Chickamauga, Ga., on Friday evening resulted in one man’s arrest and the seizure of more than 12 pounds of marijuana, according to Chickamauga Police Department Interim Chief Micheal Haney.
Chickamauga Police Officer Tony Gregory stopped a red 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier about 7:40 p.m. near the Food Lion on U.S. Highway 27, smelled an odor of marijuana and called for a Walker County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, the chief said.
Deputy Dewayne Lleweyn’s dog alerted the officers to search Charles Clyde Edwards’ car which resulted in their finding 28 bags of marijuana, a .380-caliber automatic pistol, $7,000 in cash and numerous bottles of pills, Chief Haney said.
Mr. Edwards agreed to allow a search of his home on Hog Jowl Road in Walker County, where deputies and officers found more bottles of pills and a large quantity of bagged marijuana, the chief said.
A total of 12.32 pounds of marijuana was seized, Chief Haney said, adding that the exact type and quantity of pills has yet to be determined.
Mr. Edwards, 54, was charged with trafficking in marijuana, having marijuana for sale and distribution, possession of a firearm during a crime, failure to maintain a lane, for drugs not being kept in their original container and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, the chief said.
Mr. Edwards is being held in the Walker County Jail, he said.
