Mo. Police Pack Courtroom in Support of Officers Charged in Crash That Injured 2 Teens

Kansas City Channel News

OLATHE, Kan. -- Dozens of Missouri police officers packed the Johnson County Courthouse in Olathe, Kan., Wednesday to show support for two Grandview officers charged in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.

The chase and the charges have people arguing on both sides of the state line.

On Nov. 5, a police chase crossed state lines and ended with a crash in Leawood, Kan. Two teenagers were seriously injured in the crash.

Last week, two Grandview policemen, Brian Blessing and Doug Blodgett, were charged with reckless driving, which is a misdemeanor. The officers were arraigned Wednesday.

More than 50 officers from about six Kansas City area police departments were on hand to support the accused policemen, KMBC’s Bev Chapman reported.

The officers say they were just doing their job.

Johnson County District Attorney Paul Morrison said the Grandview officers exercised poor judgment in the chase.

The officers will appear in traffic court on Dec. 29. They remain on the job.
