‘Let’s-a-go!’: Video shows rideshare driver helping Fla. deputy catch fleeing suspect

A game of Mario Kart can be seen on a screen in the back seat of the Good Samaritan’s car as he gave the Pinellas County deputy a “power-up” during a foot pursuit

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A foot pursuit was brought to a quick end after a rideshare driver gave a deputy a lift, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook.

The video starts by showing two deputies speaking to a vehicle passenger and instructing him to put a backpack on the ground. As the deputies reached for the bag, the man became combative and threw the bag over the deputies’ heads.

One deputy restrained the passenger. Another occupant of the vehicle ran and retrieved the bag before fleeing on foot. As the deputy pursued him, a minivan driver pulled to the side of the highway and opened a door to the back seat. A game of Mario Kart can be seen on a screen.

The driver then drove past the fleeing suspect, allowing the officer to get out and take him into custody.

In the video release, the sheriff’s office overlaid the video with music and sound effects from Mario Kart. In the video’s caption, they called the Good Samaritan the “most legendary rideshare driver in history.”
