Unfortunately, we who have taken up the profession in law enforcement can display our pride like other professions.
Wearing clothing that indicates you may be a police officer out in public may be a fatal mistake. I encourage my younger officers not to be wearing ball caps, shirts or any other clothing item that has a police logo or statement on it.
This for obvious reasons lets the bad guys know who/what you are and represent. Thus putting you and you loved ones at risk. I have been a police officer for 28 years and stopped wearing things that associated me with LE many years ago.
It’s a shame, as I would love to wear my colors in pride, but we all know that we live a very different time now.
So that’s my safety tip: don’t advertise you are a cop off duty... it’s a mistake.
