BALL, La. — The Ball Police Department’s assistant chief suffered a fatal heart attack while working the overnight shift Saturday.

According to ODMP, 51-year-old Assistant Chief Carl Bordelon was inside the police headquarters after having changed a flat tire on his patrol car in front of the building when he died.

The Town Talk reports Bordelon was planning to marry his longtime girlfriend in March. He also leaves behind two sons.

Bordelon served with the Ball Police Department for 23 years, according to the report.
