YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Video from security footage and an officer’s body camera shows the moment a man attacked an officer in the Youngstown Police Department’s lobby.

The attack, which happened Tuesday, shows the suspect, identified as Keishaun Sims, walking into the lobby and asking the officer working the front desk if he could speak to a “manager,” WKBN reports.

The officer can be heard on body-worn camera video informing Sims that he would need to schedule an appointment to speak with the chief or anyone else. Sims ignored the comment and began discussing a “manifestation.”

After several more comments from Sims, the officer got up, walked into the lobby and asked Sims to leave.

An altercation ensued and Sims knocked the officer down, pinning him to the ground until two more officers came in and put Sims into handcuffs.

The police department issued a statement saying they are investigating the incident and are considering implementing additional training for officers to better de-escalate similar scenarios.

Sims was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; two counts of assault on a police officer, a fourth-degree felony; and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
