An officer surprised a speeding motorist when instead of giving a ticket, he offered a prayer

BOSSIER PARISH, La. — A Bossier Parish deputy routinely uses prayer when interacting with civilians going through tough times, KSLA reported.

Deputy Jackie Loveless pulled over a car for speeding last month. Before exiting, he did his usual prayer in his cruiser.

When Loveless walked up to Maxine Morgan’s car, they began a conversation. Morgan admitted to the officer she wasn’t paying attention to how fast she was going, and that she was headed to a memorial for her daughter who had just passed days before.

After hearing that the woman was about to bury her daughter, Loveless did something unexpected: he reached into the car, grabbed Morgan’s hand and asked her to pray with him.

“When the spirit of the Lord comes up to me to pray, I’m obedient to him and pray with that person,” said Loveless in his interview.

Morgan and her husband joined hands with the officer and prayed.

“It just touched me so much,” Morgan told the publication. “He took the time to pray with us. I think he was our miracle that day.”

Loveless was applauded by his department for his handling of the situation.

“Jackie understands we deal with a lot of people, but in a lot of times in the most stressful, critical event they’ve ever had to deal with in their lives,” said Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington. “He exemplifies, first off, a man, a Christian man.”

Morgan wasn’t ticketed. Loveless reportedly prayed with two other drivers during stops that day.
