HARLINGEN, Texas — A sheriff’s office welcomed a new honorary member of their family last week: Adan Alejandro Farías.

ValleyCentral.com reported that Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra and his staff welcomed Adan to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office family with a pinning ceremony. Guerra said he was inspired by Adan’s strength and courage in his battle with cancer.

Adan, who was given an honorary deputy badge, spent an afternoon at the sheriff’s office and explored the department’s vehicles.

“Please join us in congratulating Honorary Deputy Adan Alejandro Farias #0604 on his new appointment with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Deputy Adan Alejandro Farias #0604, your HCSO family salutes you and wants you to know that you can count on us to back you up in your fight.”
