WINNIE, Texas — Two deputies are being called heroes after rescuing a man from a burning car.

According to KHOU, Deputies Braedon Boznango and Carlton Carrington arrived at the scene to find a flipped car in flames and bystanders alerting them that a man was trapped inside.

“Sir? Sir? Can you give your arms?” Boznango can be heard on body camera video as he attempts to pull the man out of the car. Flames were running up the man’s face as he and Carrington rushed to get him out.

The driver’s lower body was on fire when they pulled him out of the car. They were able to extinguish the flames by pulling him to a nearby puddle.

“They are heroes in my eyes, and I think they’re probably heroes in everybody’s eyes,” Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said. “Because that could be any of us in that car on fire, and I can assure you there are a lot of people that would’ve just sat back and watched it burn.”

The driver was airlifted to a Houston hospital in critical condition. He was the only person in the car.
