  • Michael Harrigan retired in 2018 as chief of the FBI’s Firearms Training Program following a successful 30-year law enforcement career. He previously served as chief of the FBI’s National Academy Program and held numerous other leadership positions during his 22-year stint with the FBI. He currently provides expert witness support in law enforcement use-of-force and firearms range litigation cases, in addition to consultation services in the operation and improvement of firearms ranges. He was with Genesis Management and Insurance Services, a subsidiary of General Reinsurance, for more than 20 years, until the end of 2017. Rick has extensive experience handling the wide array of claims faced by public entities, K-12 school districts and the higher education sector. Based in Chicago, he has also worked for Transamerica Insurance Group, Northbrook Excess and Surplus Insurance Company, CNA Insurance and Allstate Reinsurance. He is a graduate of Northern Illinois University, a member of the Society of CPCU, and holds associate designations in risk management, claims and reinsurance. Rick has been developing and presenting insurance industry-related training sessions to a variety of client and industry groups for 20 years.

  • Andrew Birozy is a 27-year law enforcement veteran currently serving as a lieutenant in a police department in Southern California. Andrew has also worked for Lexipol for the past 13 years as a training developer. He holds a master of science degree in Law Enforcement Executive Leadership and a bachelor of arts degree in Leadership. Andrew is a California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training Master Instructor and teaches a variety of law enforcement classes throughout the state.   • Derek Clepper is a licensed attorney in Pennsylvania, where he has served as prosecutor for more than 50 jury trials and thousands of bench trials. Currently, he serves as a content developer for Lexipol and led the development of Lexipol’s Law Enforcement policy manuals for Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Montana and Virginia. Derek teaches constitutional law, criminal procedure and mock trials at the college level. He lives in Boiling Springs, Pa., with wife Sara and four sons.

  • Jason Helfer is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has been a law enforcement officer for over 17 years. He has served in various roles for his department, including road patrol, crime scene processing, community services and internal affairs. Jason currently works part time for Lexipol as a Professional Services Representative and recently successfully completed the Advanced Force Science Specialist class offered by the Force Science Institute.

  • Jenna Curren, Ed.D., is an assistant professor in criminal justice studies. As chair of a CJ advisory board, Jenna actively partners with members of the community to integrate current students into internships and prospective law enforcement careers. Prior to working in academics, Jenna held various custody and treatment positions and was a lieutenant for the Connecticut Department of Correction. Throughout her tenure, she supervised men, women, youth and mental health offenders. A C.E.R.T and honor guard member, as well as a training officer, Jenna has 10 years of experience in the criminal justice and human services fields.

  • Rick Bates is a professional services representative for Lexipol. He retired as a lieutenant after a 32-year career with the Worcester (MA) Police Department, serving as a risk manager, accreditation manager, academy director, legal advisor, internal investigator, detective and patrol officer during his time with the department. Rick lectures frequently on risk management for law enforcement, police supervisory liability, and First Amendment and free speech issues for police. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College and his Juris Doctor from New England School of Law. Rick is a 2012 graduate of the FBI National Academy Session 249 and graduated from the Massachusetts Police Leadership Institute.
