Ross Torquato has been employed as a Brevard County Deputy Sheriff for 18 years and was recently assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Training Unit as a full time instructor for the past five years. Now assigned to road patrol as a Sergeant, Torquato is the primary Use of Force and Defensive Tactics instructor for the 800-sworn deputies in the Sheriff’s Office.

During his time at the Sheriff’s Office, he has taught Defensive Tactics, Firearms, and Use of Force within the Department, at the local academy, to many of the areas agencies and has presented at several international law enforcement conferences to include ASLET, IALEFI, and ILEETA. He has taught self defense courses for several years based on his experiences as Law Enforcement officer.

Samuel Getz, a police officer with the Milton Township (Ohio) Police Department, has more than 33 years experience in law enforcement and more than 37 years experience as a firefighter. A of the National Association of EMS Educators (NAEMSE) and a certified EMT/Paramedic Getz serves as a Tactical EMS training consultant through his company, STS Consulting.

Sara Jahnke, PhD, is the director and a senior scientist with the Center for Fire, Rescue & EMS Health Research at the National Development & Research Institutes - USA. With over a decade of research experience on firefighter health, Dr. Jahnke has been the principal investigator on 10 national studies as well as dozens of studies as a co-investigator. Her work has focused on a range of health concerns, including the health of female firefighters, behavioral health, risk of injury, cancer, cardiovascular risk factors, and substance use, with funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant R&D Program, the National Institutes of Health and other foundations. Jahnke has more than 100 publications in the peer-reviewed medical literature. Awards include the 2019 Endowed Lecture at the annual conference of the American College of Epidemiology; the 2018 President’s Award for Excellence in Fire Service Research as well as the Excellence in Research, Safety, Health & Survival Award, both from the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC); and the 2016 John Granito Award for Excellence in Firefighter Research from the International Journal of Fire Service Leadership and Management. Sarah Wilson is the Vice President of the Grant Division at Lexipol. She has been with the company since 2007 and started the Grant services division in 2009. Scott Stewart is STRATFOR’s VP of Analysis. He is a former Diplomatic Security Service Special Agent who was involved in hundreds of terrorism investigations, most notably the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and the follow-on New York City bomb plot investigation, during which he served as lead investigator for the U.S. State Department. He led a team of Americans who aided the government of Argentina in investigating the 1992 bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires, and was involved in investigations following a series of attacks and attempted attacks by the Iraqi intelligence service during the first Gulf War.

Lou Savelli, who has spent all of his 23 years in law enforcement in the streets, is one of the most decorated officers in NYPD history and has received over 100 medals for bravery, outstanding police work, life saving rescues, and record setting investigations. He retired in 2004 as the Detective Squad Commander of the NYPD’s Terrorism Interdiction Unit, which he co-founded after 9-11-01 as a proactive counter-terrorism investigative unit responsible to aggressively seek out and investigate terrorist cells in New York.

Sgt. Steve Schrimpf is the Training/Personnel Sergeant for the Greeley, Colorado Police Department. Sgt. Schrimpf was a Police Officer in Albuquerque from 1991-1994. He has worked for the Greeley Police Department since 1994 and has served in various assignments including: patrol, traffic enforcement and reconstruction, criminal investigations, and hostage negotiations. Sgt. Schrimpf spent five years active duty in Air Force Security Forces and has spent another 19 years in Security Forces in the Colorado Air National Guard. He is currently a Chief Master Sergeant and Security Forces Manager for the 137th Space Warning Squadron in Colorado; in addition to his duties with Greely PD. Sgt. Schrimpf has 15 years of military and law enforcement supervisory experience. He also currently holds a Master’s Degree in Education; with an emphasis in Organizational Performance and Change from Colorado State University.

Shawn Hughes is a veteran Patrol Officer who in addition to being a Bomb Technician, has served with other special teams including Entry, Narcotics, and Technical Surveillance units. A sometimes controversial speaker and writer, his work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals including the National Tactical Association’sTactical Edge, the International Association of Bomb Technicians’ Detonator, and other respected national publications such as S.W.A.T., Police, Frontline Responder and The Police Marksman.

His books include a well-received manual for First Responders and Prepared Citizens entitled, The WMD Awareness Guide, and one in post-production; the first in a series of study guides on physical security vulnerability exploitation.

When he isn’t writing, he teaches, lectures and consults for government and the private sector in addition to whatever else tickles his fancy.
