(WINFIELD, W.Va.) -- Putnam County will shell out more than $534,000 in back pay, interest and attorneys fees to settle more than 30 deputies’ wage claims dating back to 1995, according to the Daily Mail Putnam Reporter.
A court hearing yesterday the Putnam County Commission agreed to the deputies’ payment but had not finalized fees for the two lawyers representing the officers. The attorneys had been paid more than $88,000 but are seeking an additional $30,944, the newspaper reported.
The matter began in 1995 when a former sheriff gave a raise to an officer without the proper evaluation process and also instituted a short-lived and “illegal” personnel point system, the newspaper reported.
