ROCHESTER, NY — A Rochester police cruiser on its way to an emergency call and with its lights and siren activated struck a bicyclist at North Clinton Avenue and Hoeltzer Street about 4:15 p.m. this afternoon, police said.

Police released few details about the boy who was struck, but friends and close relatives identified him as Treyvon Prigett, 14, who they said died as a result of his injuries.

“I’m hurting right now, I’m really really hurting,” said Brandon Harris, who said he assumed the role of Prigett’s father and lived with him on Hoeltzer Street. After being consoled by a crowd of people a few blocks from the scene, Harris got into a car bound for Strong Memorial Hospital.
