MIAMI — Motorists driving along one of South Florida’s busiest roadways witnessed a high-speed chase that ended with a crash and a takedown by police.

The drama — captured by a CBS 4 news chopper -- began as a man in a gold Nissan Maxima sped along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in North Miami-Dade.

The driver whizzed past cars, coming close to hitting many of them.

Trailing him closely was a police cruiser.

In the area of the Golden Glades interchange, where I-95 intersects with Florida’s Turnpike, the Palmetto Expressway and State Road 7, the driver cut across several lanes of traffic and almost flipped.

When the car came to a screeching halt in the middle of the interstate, the man opened the door and began running along the median.

A police officer, dressed in plain clothes, ran beside him step-by-step.

After about a minute foot chase, the man got tired and stopped.

The officer hopped over the median, pushed the man to the ground and handcuffed him.
