Government Launches Bomb, Arson Tracking System

By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The government has set up an online library that law enforcement agencies can use to track bomb and arson cases around the country.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said Tuesday its new $500,000 system will be free for qualifying agencies and should give investigators faster information on violent crimes under their jurisdictions.

It makes available maps on the locations of arson cases and bombings and details on casualties, dollar losses, components used in the bombs or other devices and other information on the crimes.

The bureau worked with PEC Solutions of Fairfax, Va., and state and local law enforcement agencies to develop the system.
