DAVENPORT, Iowa - A man was shot to death and a police officer was injured in an incident that began with a 911 call from a woman who said she was being followed by a former boyfriend and was afraid he would harm her.

Police were called to the parking lots of a movie theater and a restaurant on the city’s east side about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said an officer stopped a vehicle whose driver was identified by the woman as the person following her. “An altercation ensued, which, after a series of events, resulted in the death of a suspect,” police said in a news release.

The dead man’s name was not released. Police would not say whether he was armed.

Davenport Police Officer Scott Fuller, who has been on the force since 2002, was injured. Authorities declined to provide further details, but described his injuries as non-life-threatening.

Police did not identify the woman, who was not injured.

The investigation was turned over to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Scott County Sheriff’s Department.
