YORK, S.C. (Associated Press) - A man fatally shot by York County sheriff’s deputies left a note his mailbox saying he wanted to die, Sheriff Bruce Bryant says.
Deputies shot Gregory Allen Seymour, 41, prevented firefighters from entering his burning mobile home on Sunday, threatening them with a knife and gun, Bryant said.
Seymour was pronounced dead at Piedmont Medical Center. No one else was injured.
The case may be ruled “suicide by police involvement,” Coroner Doug McKown said.
The three officers involved in the shooting are on administrative duty pending an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division, Bryant said.
Police had responded to a domestic disturbance at the home Saturday. Seymour told police that his wife said she was leaving and taking the children, but the officers found no threat of violence.
