ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) -- An off-duty Rapides Parish sheriff’s deputy stopped a bank from being robbed when he fired shots at two armed would-be thieves.
The masked gunmen ran out of the Peoples State Bank with nothing. They did not return fire.
It was unknown if the two suspects were hit. No one in the bank was injured, Alexandria police said.
The attempted robbery occurred at about 1:50 p.m. Monday. Police said two men walked into the bank, one carrying a shotgun and the other a chrome handgun.
The deputy saw the men enter the bank and drew his weapon, firing two shots.
Sheriff’s officials would not release the deputy’s name, pending completion of an administrative investigation into the shooting.
