SACRAMENTO, Ca. — A man was shot and killed by a Roseville Police Department veteran Saturday evening in the city’s downtown area, police said.
After a witness reported seeing a man carrying a metal pipe, an officer found the man carrying a 3-foot-long metal pipe near the intersection of Vernon and Lincoln streets, police said.
The pipe-wielding man fled from the officer, who chased him on foot to a parking lot on Vernon Street.
According to police, the man then charged at the officer, who first tried to stop him with a stun gun.
The electroshock weapon failed to stop the man, according to police, and the officer shot him.
The man’s identity was not released because next of kin had not been notified.
The name of the six-year-veteran of the Roseville Police Department also was not released. He is on an administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.
