EL PASO, Texas — El Paso police arrested a man Monday morning for allegedly trying to bribe an officer with $1 million.
Police said at 2 a.m., an officer saw Jesus Hernandez, 21, run a red light while driving a white Ford Explorer at Montana and Gateway South. The officer stopped Hernandez and noticed he may have been intoxicated. As the officer was interviewing Hernandez, he allegedly told the officer he would “give him money to let him go home,” police said. Hernandez also allegedly told the officer he would give the officer $1 million to let him go.
The officer arrested Hernandez on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and bribery. Hernandez was booked into the El Paso County Jail on bonds totaling about $7,500.

Musical group robbed in Juárez; singer is shot
A member of Caballo Dorado, a Mexican band famous for its version of “Achy Breaky Heart,” was shot and wounded Monday afternoon during a robbery in Juárez.
Vocalist Eduardo Gameros was wounded in the leg during a robbery when the band stopped to buy something at a Del Rio convenience store, Channel 26-KINT reported. Gameros was taken to a hospital.
The Chihuahua City-based band was in Juárez for a show and fan-signing session at a mall. Caballo Dorado performs “country en espa?ol” and is best known for the song “No Rompas Mi Coraz?n,” a cover of “Achy Breaky Heart.” The group has made several appearances in El Paso in the past.
