DORCHESTER, Mass. — A Dorchester man called 911 early yesterday morning and claimed an armed man was threatening him and trying to break into his apartment, police said.

Officers reported they responded quickly and with guns drawn to the call from the Victory Road apartment, whereupon the caller greeted them and exclaimed, “There is no gun. I just wanted you guys here quicker.”

The officers reported noticing the caller had alcohol on his breath and involuntarily dancing feet and that the man said he had called them to complain about a neighbor who “bangs on his door and thinks that he owns the building.”

Police said the caller then launched into a vicious tirade of racial epithets about his neighbor before they calmed him down and asked him to return to his apartment.

As police left, they said, they were flagged by the callers’ neighbors, who said the man was always drunk and banging on his ceiling and doors. The man then began screaming and making a spectacle, cops said.

Cops seized the suspect, John M. Sullivan, 42, of Dorchester, and charged him with disturbing the peace. While being escorted to the cruiser, the man was reported to have exclaimed, “Payback is a (expletive) mother(expletive). I’ll call the cops every day. You (expletive) need a real job!’'
