MINNEAPOLIS- Seventeen people have thrown their names into the blue hat to be considered for running Minnesota’s largest police department.
The applicants for the job of Minneapolis police chief include Interim Chief Tim Dolan. The rest of the names have not been made public.
An advisory committee will help screen the applicants over the next two weeks. It could be another month before Mayor R-T Rybak submits his nomination to the city council.
Twenty-five people applied for the chief’s job when Robert Olson left in 2003. Deputy Chief Lucy Gerold and interim Assistant Chief Sharon Lubinski were strong contenders then, but the job went to Bill McManus, who was the chief in Dayton, Ohio. He left to be chief in San Antonio, Texas.
Gerold and Lubinski say they did not apply this time.
