SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — Police teamed up with a sock brand to give the homeless socks to keep them warm in the cold.
Fox 61 reported Matt Siracusa, the owner of Wewool, contacted Hartford police to see if he could join them on patrol to offer the homeless socks. Wewool is a one-for-one company, meaning for every pair of socks bought, they donate a pair to charity.
Hartford police and Siracusa took to the streets on a cold morning and passed out socks.
“A lot of times when they have us there, their first impression is ‘Oh what did I do wrong? Do I have a warrant? Am I going to get a ticket for being here?’” Officer Doug Antuna said in a video posted to Facebook. “We’re trying to help them. Sometimes we gotta enforce the law, but that’s not why we’re out here today. It’s good for them to see that every once in awhile.”
The company has donated over 3,000 pairs of socks so far, according to Fox 61.
